Everything is included in the experience, you simply need to turn up and Ed will look after you from start to finish. You’ll start day 1 in the morning with a coffee and a chat & safety briefing before putting on your wetsuits (all included) and then jump in the mini-bus to head up to the river gorge.
You’ll send around 3 incredible hours making your way up the gorge with Ed expertly guiding and helping you the whole way. You’ll get wet but you’ll be warm and dry inside but the sensation of climbing up a flowing river is very exhilarating.
Once you’re all safely at the top you’ll get back in the bus and head back to base for a shower, change of clothes and a packed lunch you’ll have brought with you.
You’ll then follow Ed in your cars and drive through stunning scenery over to the mountain biking centre at Coed y Brenin. You’ll get the bikes out (all included), put your helmets on and Ed will lead you – initially on the green (easy) trails so you can get used to the bikes and the slopes and get some energy together before heading over to the more exciting blue and red runs leading down to the river. All the trails run through forests and you’ll spend a further 2.5 hours at your own pace riding around trying the trails you feel comfortable with. Once back at the biking centre you’ll have a well earned drink, jump back in the cars and head back to your accommodation.
You’ll send the evening in the pub, or at your accommodation with a takeout with that lovely tired but energised feeling.
The next morning there’s no rush and by mid-morning you’ll meet Ed back at base and follow him over the stunning Denbigh moors to the slate mine. You’ll get kitted up (all included) and enjoy a lovely gentle walk up the hill into an amazing ’emerald forest’ and to the mine entrance. You can walk all the way (don’t worry we’ll supply wellies) in the mine and will only need to duck your head a little when the roof gets a little low. Ed will guide you through the network of mine shafts (all totally safe) explaining the history and background to the mines. You’ll then cross an underground lake on a large inflatable boat before starting to make your way up to the top of the mine through a series of easy but incredible walks up underground river beds.
If you feel up to it you can try a bit of abseiling inside the mine but if not you can simply walk instead and then either walk or climb up and out of the mine through the old mine entrances (now closed to the public). You’ll emerge back in the day light a few hours after entering the mine and enjoy a hot drink.
Then it’s a lovely walk through heath, into forest and then down through the old mine works and back to the cars. A quick change and time to say farewell to Ed and you’re on your way by around 3pm giving you plenty of time to get back home or base for a relaxing evening reflecting on what will be a truly amazing weekend!
