Press Release: 15th March 2022

Are you looking to get out in the fresh air and be more active?
Then join the fastest growing outdoor, activities and adventure group in the UK… Club Wellwild!

It’s now easier than ever to get outdoors, breathe in the fresh air and become more active!

Suitable for all ages and abilities, Club Wellwild is a completely free, membership-based club that offers daily inspiration, exclusive member events and discounts on exciting experiences all over Wales.

With upcoming events discussed on the Facebook group and dropped over via email, members can pick and choose which activities they’d like to participate in. Because membership is free, with experiences being paid for by “topping up” your Club Wellwild account, you can attend as few, or as many, as you’d like. You’re never paying for something you don’t use… unlike my gym membership!

The group has swelled rapidly to over 1,000 like-minded members in just a few short weeks and founder, Simon Grice, thinks he knows why.

“Aside from the physical and mental benefits being active outdoors brings, I think the one thing that our members appreciate is the simple fact that our experiences aren’t just for the thrill-seekers and adventurers.”

“One of our first experiences was caving near Mold, North Wales and we had a huge range of ages and abilities. Karen, for example, a lovely lady from near Ruthin who is 58 years old, recently widowed and was understandably nervous. She’s never done anything like this before! However, she stepped slightly out of her comfort zone, embraced the activity and by the end of the experience she was already asking us when the next one is!”

And this is what Club Wellwild is all about. With over 60 (and counting) outdoor activities and adventure experiences on offer, hand-picked and fully-insured providers and a growing community of individuals, it seems like Simon is onto something.

Members within the group discuss which activities they’d like to do next and then a date is set. The latest Winter Gorge Walking activity was so popular, that Club Wellwild had to contact the host and double the original booking. Christine who enjoyed the experience shares her feedback.

So how did Club Wellwild come about?

Over three weeks during June and July 2021, Simon, his team and invited staff from NHS Wales completed more than 30 experiences from Cardiff to Wrexham, filming their adventures and interviewing the local hosts.

“I came up with the idea for this tour, which we called Experience Wales Live, during lockdown. Firstly, it would provide the amazing experience hosts, all of which had been forced to shut up shop throughout the pandemic, with high quality video and imagery to help them promote their businesses once the restrictions eased.”
“Secondly, it would allow us to thank NHS frontline staff members for their service by giving them a memorable outdoor experience.”
“Finally, on a personal level, it would give me the chance to reconnect with the country.”
“What struck me most about this trip was that the hosts, many of whom are running small, independent businesses, are all so passionate about what they do and their local surroundings. It’s more than just a job for them; they genuinely care about the experiences they provide – all of which are great fun.”
“I realised that I wanted to do more to help support these businesses and help and inspire more people to discover and experience what’s on offer around them.”

So if you’re seeking adventure, wishing to step a little outside of your comfort zone – or simply looking to get outdoors and be more active, why not join club Wellwild.
