One of the most picturesque gorges in North Wales, the Afon Ddu is an ideal venue for a first taste of gorge walking. It involves scrambling up the river, some steep climbs, slides, and a deep pool at the end for some jumps if you’re feeling brave!
Suitable for all ages and abilities – you don’t need to be a super strong swimmer, but some confidence in water will certainly help you enjoy the session.
The Afon Ddu is so stunning, it is a very popular venue. To ensure maximum enjoyment and a relaxed trip, we therefore opt for a mid afternoon start time to avoid the crowds allowing you to savour the experience to the fullest.
We will meet up for introductions and a brief catch-up about our session. We will then make our way to the car park for the Gorge – just a very short drive away. Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets will be provided to keep you comfortable in the water. Please note there are no changing facilities or toilet facilities in the car park. After changing into wetsuits and safety gear, it is just a couple of hundred metres until we enter the river! It can take anywhere between 2 and 4 hours to climb the gorge, followed by a steep walk back down to the cars to warm dry clothes – and just minutes from the cafe!
